Position Overview & Specifications
The post-holder will carry out a wide range of professional library tasks under the supervision of senior colleagues. Primarily based at the RSCH Library, with some remote/home working, the Assistant Librarian (Knowledge Management) will support the KnowledgeShare system through extensive indexing work for current awareness, teaching colleagues to use the system face-to-face or via web-conferencing, providing a help-desk function and writing supporting documentation.
The post-holder will also support the Senior Knowledge Management Librarian and Knowledge Management Librarian in the delivery of other knowledge management initiatives on a project-by-project basis.
In addition, the Assistant Librarian will assist in the delivery of core services. This will include carrying out in-depth evidence searches and teaching information skills to KLS members. In all cases these professional tasks will be carried out as part of the larger professional team, with appropriate levels of training, support and supervision.

1. To contribute to our evidence updates service, using our KnowledgeShare system to categorise members according to their professional interests and categorise publications according to their subject matter. This will involve a good understanding of the KnowledgeShare updates system and of the full taxonomy of health and social care topics.
2. To support the Senior Knowledge Management Librarian and Knowledge Management Librarian in providing a help-desk function for the KnowledgeShare system, answering enquiries from KLS colleagues both within UHSussex and outside the Trust, either face-to-face, by phone or email.
3. To contribute to our evidence search service, carrying out a proportion of the search requests received by the KLS (number will fluctuate over time). This will involve using professional expertise to select appropriate online bibliographic databases and health care websites, applying advanced knowledge of search techniques and health care evidence to query these sources appropriately, select relevant publications and using our KnowledgeShare system to produce summarised reports for members.
4. To carry out a proportion of the one-to-one and small group teaching that the KLS provides on information skills for local healthcare staff.
