Position Overview & Specifications

London South Bank University is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Kitroom Technician to the Arts and Creative Industries technical team. Key responsibilities include carrying out day-to-day operations, maintenance, and booking and preparation of specialist equipment to students and staff, for classes and projects. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of the booking system, keeping accurate records of assets and provide professional expertise, guidance and advice and contribute to the delivery of academic activities in the specialist areas. The successful candidate will possess an excellent working knowledge of specialist equipment relevant to media courses, such as Film and Cinematography, Photography, and Sound, and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving. As this is a support role in a busy and vibrant environment an excellent customer service attitude is essential.

You will work well under pressure and be able to juggle competing priorities. You will be resilient, reliable, and solution-focussed, motivating kitroom colleagues to deliver an excellent support service to students and staff.


Exciting work you will do

You will be working as part of a team of professional technicians who support all courses in the school of Arts and Creative Industries, including Film and Television Practice, Photography and Imaging, Media Production, Game Development, Fashion, Journalism, Sound Design and Drama and Performance.

You will work closely with academic colleagues and students on those courses, supporting classes, projects, and student events such as exhibitions and degree shows.

You will be supporting research projects and contributing to the development of courses by researching and advising on equipment and technologies in relevant curriculum areas.

The skills and experience you will need to be successful

You will possess practitioner’s experience of a range of professional equipment and software related to a creative discipline, preferably, film, cinematography, and/or photography and sound, with excellent technical skills and the willingness to develop your skills in this curriculum area. Pro-rental experience is highly desirable.

You will have practical experience of Health and safety and its applications in this area, together with exceptional organisational skills, and a keen eye for detail. You will be an effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across and outside the organisation to foster good and effective working relationships with colleagues and students.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent self-organisation, particularly at times of high activity. You should be flexible, adaptable, and able to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in supporting staff, students, and external clients in the use of the designated areas.

This role is a permanent full-time post, 35 hours a week. This role is campus based.
