News UK is a company full of talented, dedicated and creative people. We are an ambitious and ever-growing organisation with a passion for storytelling, capturing moments, meaning and magic to make sense of the world. Our newspapers reach more than 30 million people each week and include The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. The Team: We are The Scottish Sun. The Scottish Sun is Scotland’s No.1, award-winning newsbrand. The Scottish Sun cares about quality of life, the kind of world we live in, and about people. The Scottish Sun is more than a newspaper. It is an instigator, an entertainer, a cultural reference point, a finger on the pulse and a daily relationship. The Scottish Sun strives to the very highest standards of accuracy in its reporting, and continues to invest in original journalism in print and online.

Your Role: The Scottish Sun is looking for a sports sub-editor to join our talented team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Day to day:

  • Reviewing sports content, checking facts to ensure stories are accurate and legally safe and subbing to the Scottish Sun’s high standards, quickly and accurately.

  • Consulting with reporter/writer and desk heads to resolve issues with copy, suggest new angles and keeping chief subs informed on changes that arise.

  • Maintain a wide knowledge of sports, current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms daily.

  • Working flexibly as part of a team across a seven-day rota, producing up to 17 pages a day plus three weekend pullouts.

  • Maintaining The Scottish Sun’s reputation for eye-grabbing headlines.

  • Meticulous fact-checking and attention to detail to ensure our pages are as clean as they can.

  • Regularly stepping up to join the chief subbing team.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experienced sub-editors who ideally will already have worked on a sport desk.

  • Sports fans who have a passion for sport and a good all-round knowledge.

  • Team players who will slot seamlessly into a friendly subs desk.

  • Tabloid story-tellers who can spot hidden gems in reams of copy.

  • People who are eager for responsibility and the chance to advance their careers.
