Position Overview & Specifications
The Portering and Security department is a busy working environment that deals with a diverse workload on a daily basis.
- Safe transportation of patients throughout our site using wheelchairs or trolleys ensuring policies and guidelines are robustly maintained and ensure proper care and attention at all times.
- To be able to communicate with patients and visitors sensitively and courteously at all times
- To be able to respond to enquiries from patients visitors and all staff groups.
- To respond effectively to Security/Incident/Fire/Crash calls on site.

- To ensure that all patients and visitors are courteously assisted and directed in a manner that will reflect positively on the service and the Trust.
- To escort patients by chair, trolley, bed or accompanying on foot in keeping with the current regulations, and to assist in movement of patients as required.
- To transport equipment, samples and specimens to medical areas as required.
- To deliver deceased patients to the mortuary and prepare deceased patients for viewing by their relatives on request, with proper respect for the patients’ dignity and in keeping with Trust policy.
- To help in the movement of furniture and its disposal, as requested.
- To change gas cylinders as requested.
- To take out of service, broken or faulty wheelchairs or trolleys and report faults to the manager or their deputies. To ensure all wheelchairs and trolleys are kept clean and in good working order.
- Any other duties as requested by the Manager or his Deputy.
