Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking for enthusiastic experienced Clinical Coders to join our expanding Clinical Coding Team. Please note Accredited Clinical
Coders would be AFC Band 5 whereas trained but non accredited coders would be awarded a band 4 on successful completion of an inhouse
assessment. Hours negotiable, with hybrid home/office working available.

If you have relevant practical clinical coding experience and are competent using ICD10 and OPCS4.9 classifications we would love to hear from you, applications are invited from conscientious, adaptable, reliable and well-motivated individuals with a willingness to learn. You will need to be a motivated individual with a positive approach to ensuring that Clinical Coding Rules & Conventions are adhered to and commissioning deadlines are met.
The recruitment process will involve a practical coding assessment.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ensuring the clinical coding teams deliver a quality coding service across the
organisation by providing accurate and timely clinical coding in accordance with national standards and requirements of clinical coding.

You will have excellent communication skills and confidence in your ability. A proactive approach to ensuring high standards of coded data is
essential. You will have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. You must be able to evidence your ability to work under
pressure to meet deadlines.

Confirmation of attendance at a Clinical Coding Standards Course will be required as would confirmation of attendance at a Clinical Coding
Refresher Course if applicable.

  • To code all primary and secondary diagnoses, procedures and all operations for patients admitted to the Trust to current targets and
input these codes using the computer systems available.
  • To abstract the clinical information from the patient case notes or/and computerised health record and then analyse that information to
provide the codes, with adherence to the rules, regulations and conventions of clinical coding. This includes where the information is
sometimes very complex and difficult to interpret.
  • Coach, mentor and support the training of less experienced coders.
  • Continue professional education and undertake personal professional development in order to refresh clinical coding skills. Keep up to
date on changes to code assignment, coding methodology and local policy amendments to ensure coding reflects the activity of the
Trust
